Skill Enhancement is Essential to Build Grass Root Research
Mangaluru: Application of technologies in various fields such as forensic science, diagnostics of human diseases, innumerable biotechnological experiments and in day to day research in academic and industrial laboratories requires definitive skills to enable smooth functioning or discovery programs. While the technologies are transforming at a fast pace and becoming more and more sophisticated, the basic technologies that enable sophistication and progress are not very well disseminated and students lack this exposure to graduate them to take challenges at the next level. Despite the simplicity and robustness, such technologies as polymerase chain reaction are largely ignored.
These were evident from the one day workshop which was conducted at Kasturba Hospital, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, by scientists from School of Life Sciences, Manipal Research and Diagnostic Centre, Manipal University, Manipal. Participants conducted hands on experiments on precisely how to do these experiments in a day long workshop and understood the complexities to enhance their learning and practical skills. It is hoped these very skills will enable them to find the right job, pursue further studies or will motivate them to become entrepreneurs.
Scientists includeD Dr Saadi Abdul Vahab, Dr. TS Murali, Dr. Sanjiban Chakrabarty and Dr. Bharath Prasad from School of Life Sciences who went through the entire exercise along with Mr. Rajesh and Ms Sandhya. A total of thirty participants learned state of the art knowledge and underwent rigorous hands on training. Mr. Raviraj, Senior Operations Manager of Kasturba Hospital and Dr. K. Satyamoorthy, Director of School of Life Sciences distributed the certificates to participants.
