Sonia greets people on Mahavir Jayanti

New Delhi, April 19 (IANS) Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday greeted people on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti.

“Lord Mahavira’s life and teachings exemplified compassion, coexistence and simplicity, which show us the path to a life of happiness and contentment without harming or hurting others and these ideas will guide us forever,” Gandhi said in a statement.

Mahavir Jayanti, also known as Mahavir Janma Kalyanak, has particular significance for the Jain community.

It celebrates the birth of Mahavira, 24th and the last Tirthankara of the present time cycle, according to the Jain knowledge system.
