Sonia, Manmohan condole Suvra Mukherjee’s death

New Delhi, Aug 18 (IANS) Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday expressed their condolences on the death of Suvra Mukherjee, wife of President Pranab Mukherjee.

In her condolence message to the president and other members of his family, Gandhi said she, the Congress party and the entire country stood with them in this moment of bereavement.

Manmohan Singh said he learnt with profound sorrow about the death of Mukherjee’s wife.

“My wife joins me in conveying to you and other members of your family our heartfelt condolences on this sad occasion,” Manmohan Singh said in his letter to the president.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad also expressed his deep sorrow and grief.

Azad said Suvra Mukherjee was grace and dignity personified and a silent source of support for the president during his long political career.

Suvra Mukherjee died on Tuesday at the Army’s Research and Referral Hospital here.
