Mangalore:  Akhila Bharathiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest at Bunts Hostel Circle, here on June 30.

Addressing the protestors, State Secretary Ramesh K, said that, even though there are a number of problems in the education sector the universities are taking up various educational projects without bothering to solve the old problems which the students are facing. The Chief Minister of Karnataka Sadananda Gowda has retained 30 portfolio's so there is no proper higher education minister to deal with the problems.

The ABVP demands to withdraw the increase of 10 % in CET fees. ABVP criticised the move by the Karnataka state government for centralising the entrance procedure by counselling through Karnataka Examination Authority but the State government has failed to implement the same time table in all the universities in the state.

State government should take strict measures against the corrupt retired chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University  Dr Prabhakaran, Vijapur University Dr Saeeda Akhtar and Mysore University Dr Shashidhar Prasad. Government should implement Right to Education Act in all schools; stop the seat blocking system in CET and PGCET ; dismiss COMED K; and also investigate the blocking of 600 seats last year.

ABVP asks the government to appoint higher education minister as soon as possible.  In connection with Kuvempu University Marks card scam, 20 people have been arrested, ABVP has demanded to arrest all the people who were involved in this scam.

If the demands are not fulfilled, the ABVP will intensify the protest said Ramesh. City Secretary Chinmay Rai and other ABVP activists were also present.
