Kundapur: Dhanalaxmi, 6th Std (aged 12 yrs), Sandhya, 3rd std. (aged 9 yrs),  brilliant  students of Nooji Government. Higher Primary School  got drowned  in Beloor Mogebettu Quarry pond, when they slipped into it while attempting to take a dip in it.

10 years ago, the family of the above students had migrated to  Beloor Mogebetu Govindraj Shetty's quarry  in search of work in the quarry.  Govindraj Shetty had built houses for these workers  in his own land near the quarry, and they lived there.  Every day these workers used to take bath.  But this time tragic struck-while taking bath, both kids had slipped into the depth of the pond near the quarry. By the time neighbors reached the pond seeing the drowning students, they had breathed their last.

Sandhya, daughter of Madesha and Laxmi from Mysore ; Dhanalaxmi  elder daughter of Tavaswi & Kamakshi from Tamil Nadu, belonged to Bovi clan. Since both the families were poor, they were making their living working for the quarry.

Kota Police Inspector Ashok P.; Kundapur Taluk Panchayath Akshara Dasoha Authority Seetharama Shetty ;  Nooji Higher Primary School Head Master Shanker Shetty.  Kundapur Education Officer's Office Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana Samanwayadhikari Shobha Shetty ; Siriyara Grama Panchayath President Jayaprakash Shetty had visited the spot where the tragedy had occurred.

There being 3-4 quarries in Beloor Mogebettu, water gets deposited in the quarries in rainy days and it leaves room for danger.  This being the case, the local residents have expressed their anger over the negligence of the authorities concerned in solving the problem.
