Bangalore: Detention of Fasih comfirmed by Saudi Arabia

Bangalore: Indian authorities were officially informed by Saudi Arabia about the detention of Fasih Mohammed, the mastermind in the Chinnaswamy stadium blast in Bangalore and the Jama Masjid shootout here.

Sources in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said Saudi Arabia has officially confirmed detention of the 28-year-old engineer from Bihar, who may be deported at the earliest. Earlier, the Interpol had issued a Red Corner notice against Fasih.

According to sources,the CBI team is likely to visit Saud iArabia for Fasih's extradition. It was earlier reported that Fasih went missing. His wife, Nikhat Parveen, had contacted the Supreme Court claiming that her husband was held by central security agencies. Mohammed Fasih's detention is another step forward in the cooperation extended by Saudi Arabia to India, that began with the arrest of 26/11 Mumbai attacks plotter Abu Jundal earlier this week. Since Gulf countries have been one of the favourite hideouts of Indian fugitives, Cooperation in counter-terrorism measures and security issues between New Delhi and Riyadh have started lately,after it was learned that Gulf countries have been Indian fugitives favourite hideout destinations.
