Mangalore: P P Upadhya (56), hailing from Udupi, on July 1 took over as managing director of the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) Uttam Kumar Basu, who superannuated on June 30.

Upadhya, who until now was director - technical is a chemical engineer from the National Institute of Technology – Karnataka (NITK), Suratkal, earlier known as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC) Mangalore. He holds a Masters in Engineering in Chemical Plant Design from the same institute, having graduated and post-graduated with first class distinction Chemical Engineering in 1976 and 1978 respectively.

Upadhya started his professional career in India’s foremost Fortune Global 200 Oil Company – Indian Oil Corporation Limited a Graduate Engineering Trainee in 1978 and served for nearly 15 years before he joined MRPL as senior manager in 1993 and played a vital role in steering MRPL to unprecedented heights in the refinery performance.

Upadhya carries with him over three decades of professional experience in refinery operation and management. He has also served as member in the Petronet Mangalore-Hassan Bangalore pipeline board representing ONGC.

Known for his leadership skills and inclusive style of management, Upadhya is widely travelled, and is an astute thinker in the energy Industry, and carries with him the wealth of interactions at International fora and the advantages of knowledge networking.
