Team Mangalorean - Bantwal

Bantwal: Kalpana, wife of Krishna Murty of Tamil Nadu origin and residing at Modankap in a rented house, jumped with her ten-month-old child Vishal into river Netravati near here on Sunday, July 1 morning.

Nearby residents who were passing by, Haneef, Tauseef, Samad and others immediately jumped and rescued her. But the child had already died of water getting into the lungs.

She is said to have taken the extreme step because of discord in the family.
