Udupi: Anemia Detection & Treatment Camp to Benefit Tribal Families

Karkala/Hebri: Anemia Detection Camp was held in the Community Health Centre, Hebri jointly conducted by the Department of Public Health, Manipal University and Department of Health and FamilyWelfare Udupi District. More than 100 people participated and benefited from screening camp.

Dr. Ramachandra Kamath, Head of Department of Public Health, Manipal University,initially shared the problem of anemia and its consequences. He also shared reasons why anemia occurs and how it can be prevented. 

 

It is imperative to detect anemia at early stage so that it can be prevented ,with proper education on dietary habits and also other nutritional supplements. Recently we have come out with a new device called “Heamo Cue” which will assess hemoglobin level in the blood on the spot. This helps to intervene and address the problem of anemia during early stage and take necessary precaution to prevent it.

The camp was inaugurated by MLA Mr.Gopal Bhandary. In his inaugural speech he said both education and health plays important role in the development of society.  The technology is so advanced, today we have devices which will give instant results of blood sugar, hemoglobin and other parameters. He also appreciated the innovative approach for Anemia detection for tribal population by the department of Public Health, Manipal University. He further stressed upon community members to gain this knowledge and come forward and take benefit of such useful initiatives.

Dr Narashima Nayak, Dr. Vidya, Suresh Shetty- President GramaPanchayat , Rotarian Mohan Bhandarkar, and Susheela- leader of Koraga community were present.
