By Violet  Pereira, Team Mangalorean

Mangalore : "We are celebrating 169th Media Day in DK District , and we have completed 6 generations in the media " said senior journalist Vasanth Kumar Perla, on 'Journalism Day 'celebrated at the Press Club Urva here on July 2.

Vasanth Kumar continued and said, "In 1843, on July 1, Herman Mogling started the first newspaper "Mangalooru Samachara" and it is a history in the Media world". In India there are 560 celebrations in 365 days, and each day is a celebration. Celebrating any day means reviewing our past achievements in a particular field and looking forward for the better growth of the same.

At present in the media, there is a lot of competition and people working in the media are in competition with each other. They forget the reality and quality of their work. Television journalists have a important role to play while broadcasting any news, they must maintain the credibility of the news. Credibility plays an important role, once we lose credibility, people will not trust the particular channel"

"While reading the news, readers should understand the voice culture. While writing the script of the news for TV the writer should be impartial. Television has huge impact and so journalists have to be more responsible and careful. Media has responsibility in projecting news in a very balanced way. Media plays an outstanding role in strengthening the society; it is a mirror of the society. Its duty is to inform, educate and entertain people. In this globalized world, task and duties of the media are increasing day by day. Unitedly, there is still a lot to be done by the media for the betterment of the society." While concluding Kumar said, "Media should use their power for the better cause of the society."

Script writer and senior journalist Jogi addressing the journalists said, "Journalists should go every nook and corner of the city to gather news, no one can sit inside the four walls and write reports. Media is very powerful and it is the eyes, ears and tongue of a society through which a person, a community, a society, a nation and the world sees, hears and speaks. It is all pervading and all powerful, touching and affecting almost every one’s life directly or indirectly. It can make or break a person, an organization or a society, even a state, and cause serious upheavals and impact on the whole world. It has proved to be a double edged weapon, if used properly and wisely, it is the pillar of strength of a society but if used improperly, it can ruin many lives and many societies. Nowadays some media have started supplements and it is only meant for filling the space between the advertisements. Most of the media houses are owned by the editors and they are impartial while publishing the news "  Jogi said.

The programme was inaugurated by Vasanth Kumar Perla by lighting the traditional lamp. President of the Working Journalist Association P B Harish Rai welcomed the gathering. Photographs exhibition was inaugurated by Jogi on the occasion.
