Mulki: The Mulki police have arrested six persons while they were found transporting 13 buffaloes in a vehicle early Thursday morning.

The police were on their morning beat and were conducting  a random check on passing vehicles.  They found 13 buffaloes tied and bound in their feet and piled one above the other in one of the vehicles. To avoid being viewed by the public, they were covered with a tarpaulin sheet.

Six persons, identified as Prakash, Rajanish, Abbas, Ibrahim, Ramesh and Narayana, were arrested and they were later produced in Moodbidri court. Sources said that the animals were being taken from Udupi to Kerala for the purpose of slaughtering.

The livestock was sent for medical check-up and then to an animal care centre.
