| Team Mangalorean, Udupi
Udupi: Talks about wearing head scarf ( Hijab) by Muslim Women students inside the classrooms at Ramakunjeshwara PU college still continued on Tuesday, July 17, with a meeting convened by the college management and DK district Muslim Central Committee, failed to come to any conclusions.
The Central Committee President K S Mohammed Masood and office-bearers who held meeting with the management and parents said they have already contacted Pejawar Seer who is the honorary president of the college. But, since the Seer is in Chaturmasa vratha, he will be available for discussions on this matter only in the month of September. Hence there was a need to maintain status quo. However, the parents who opposed the move, failed to come to any consensus.
In the meantime, the leaders of Campus Front of India have threatened to intensify the protest, if Ramakunjeshwara First Grade College management fails to solve the row over scarf within 24 hours. According to sources, the CFI has warned the College management that they will fight until justice is done. Management is acting very irresponsibly by not heeding to the parents or students in this regard. India is a secular country, where one has freedom to follow religion of one's choice. Other institutions have no problems students wearing Headscarf, then why only in this college? Wearing head scarf in Islam is mandatory for women. So until the management, Mangalore University and also the police reach a conclusion and bring justice in this matter, the stir will continue, demanded CFI |
