Uppinangady: Row Over 'Hijab' Ends Until Further Talks

Team Mangalorean

Uppinangady: The students of Sri Ramakunjeshwara PU College have decided to end their stir against the college management  banning 'Hijab' (Headscarf) worn by Muslim women students in classes.end their protest and attend the classes.

According to information received it is stated, that the residents and Muslim community religious leaders have unanimously come to a decision that the students would temporarily take back the protest and attend the class till the issue is discussed with Pejawar seer. A meeting will be held with Pejawar after he returns Chaturmasa Vrutha. This decision was taken since the college authorities right now are strictly enforcing that 'Hijaj' ban rule, and don't have any plans right now in reversing that rule. So until further talks with the Seer, no one knows what the outcome will be.

On the other hand, thirty students out of 104 students who had staged protest opposing the ban on ‘hijab’, stepped out from the protest and have started attending the classes since July 19. But the college authorities are hoping other students too go by the opinion of the Muslim leaders and attend the classes from July 20, 2012.
