Manipal: Agitation by Polytechnic Students, Demand Carry-Over System

Manipal: Students of polytechnics belonging to Udupi district, staged a protest here on Friday July 20, 2012, demanding re-introduction of the ‘carry-over’ system  'for diploma courses. Polytechnic students took out a procession demanding a ‘super-carryover system’. The protesters marched from Manipal Tiger Circle to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, and submitted a memorandum. 

The students raised slogans against the Board of Technical Education and the State government for abolishing the ‘carryover’ system. The students said that according to the new guidelines, students who failed in more than four subjects in two consecutive semesters of the diploma course would not be given admission to the next semester (third and fifth).Because of this, many students were being forced to lose a year, the protesters said.

Adlan, Prathap, Manoj, Shivaraj, Naveen, Aakash, Pavan, Sachin and other student leaders joined in the stir.  Polytechnic students from Nitte, Kadiyali, Manipal, Manchi, Koteshwar were involved in the protest.
