Mangalore: Car Turns Turtle on City Street - Teen at the Wheel
|
|
| By Shinil Mon Manuel
Mangalore: Getting a drivers License is an 20- century Modern rite of passage, a doorway to greater freedom and adulthood. But for some teenagers driving recklessly on City streets, their journey that ends in death or severe injuries are always sad stories to note. Reckless drivers are a menace in Mangalore City streets, right from bus drivers to teen drivers - who think that City streets are race tracks, competing with each other to gain glory or may be just showing off their driving stunts. But eventually, all these come to an end, when tragic strikes through means of accident fatality or severe injuries or by vehicle flip - over. The City police's campaign against rash and dangerous driving does not seem to have much impact as apparently in this accident incident that just took place.

Reckless driving by some youth caused damaged not only to their own car but also to three other cars , and also injuring a auto driver before hitting the wall of a house and turning turtle, at S L Mathias Road near St Mary's School road here on July 20.
The incident took place when a car Hyundai i20 registered number KL 14 J 3055, plying on S L Mathias Road, hit a auto and three other cars after which it hit the wall of Abdul Rahaman's house and turned turtle. Being a narrow road the driver lost control because of excessive speed. The driver along with the other occupants of the car were trying to escape from the spot. But the locals were able to catch them and are said to have given a good thrashing to the car driver Farhan 19 years from Kasaragod and the occupants.
A case has been registered in Pandeshwar Police station and the car was taken into custody along with the driver and other occupants. The traffic was blocked nearly for an hour.
According to Deepak who was riding his two wheeler on that road, was suddenly shocked to see a car hitting other cars and a auto which were parked on the side of the road and moving towards him. "I was stunned to see everything in front of my eyes as the car rolled and hit the wall of a house". More than 10 vehicles narrowly escaped being hit including me, said Deepak. |
