By Violet Pereira, Team Mangalorean

Mangalore: A fishing boat capsizes near Kotepura, Alevebagilu, Ullal here on July 21.

Michael D'Souza  along with Jayasheel and David D'Souza had gone for fishing on Thursday July  19. They were returning on 21 July  to Bunder with their catch. As they were entering the breakwaters, the engine of the boat stalled, and without being able to steer the boat, the boat began to roll and capsized throwing all the three in to the rough sea waters.

Speaking to mangalorean.com, Moideen said, "We were on the shore and watching the incident. The boat was carrying a load of fish and while passing through the breakwaters to the Bunder port , suddenly the sound of the engine stopped and the boat capsized. All the three in the boat fell in to the water, of which two swam to the shore. My self along with Abraham and Nishad decided to help them by pulling the two off to the shore. They were totally exhausted by swimming for their lives in the huge waves. We could not save Micheal as we were not able to see him "

He also said that the boat was carrying around Rs. 50,000 worth of fish. Unfortunately, Michael aged 56 years was washed away in the tragedy. Efforts were made to trace down Michael but all in vain - Michael is feared drowned.
