Mangalore: Veteran Congress leader Janardhan Poojary held a press meet at the District Congress Office here on July 29.

Addressing the mediapersons Poojary said that, the entire scene of molestation has been telecasted in various TV channels and it is a heinous crime. In the name of Hindu Jagaran Vedike, some goons have assaulted and molested girls even their belongings were stolen. It is a intelligent way to rape and molest girls. Police should take serious action against the assailants so that no organizations in future must dare to repeat this crime.

"I have been always fighting for the rights of women" said Poojary. Condemning the act by the HJV, Poojary blamed the ruling BJP government for its failure in their duties." If a girl wears any kind of dress no one has the right to insult her or assault. What is HJV and who are they to take law in their hands? The BJP government has utterly failed, because their own people are responsible for creating mess in the society. Their activists are creating fear in the minds of the people, efficient officers have been transferred for the benefit of the politicians and the Lokayukta has become weak", Poojary added.

Recalling the incident which occurred in the congress office on July 28, ( during Induction of J R Lobo) he said, for whatever happened I apologise with the media, it should not be repeated, because it is for the high command to decide who is eligible for the ticket for MLA. We need a good leader and we need to support the new members. Whoever comes to power we have to welcome them. We all should work hand in hand to strengthen the party.

He also expressed his opposition to the all college bundh called by the youth congress workers on 30 July. He said creating inconvenience to the people is not a good practice. All of you have protested at the Pandeshwar Police Station seeking justice to the students who had been assaulted by the HJV activists. But calling for All college Bundh is not a good idea. We should not spoil the credibility of the party.

Mayor Gulzar Banu, J R Lobo, Suresh Ballal, A C Bhandary and other party members were present.
