Mangalore: Within two months of implementation of the new rule banning tinted glasses on vehicles by the Supreme Court, the Mangalore city police have been successful in booking 4,150 cases,( and have collected Rs. 3,74,100 in fines) against vehicles having tint glasses, that were still plying on the roads even after the ban was strictly imposed.

According to City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh he had said, that the vehicle owners had sufficient time after the deadline was extended by 15 days from the initial deadline of May 19. The police had started taking action against those vehicles having tint glasses from June 6. Similarly, the police have booked 55,219 cases in this year up to July 31 and  have collected Rs 45,35,900 as fine from traffic offenders. Recently, police have been supplied with 16 Blackberry instruments in which they have booked 8,424 cases and collected Rs 9,64,100 as fine in June and July,"

The Supreme Court had banned the use of black sun film on car glasses from May 4. According to Rule 100 (2) of Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, the windscreen and the rear windows should have a visual light transmission (VLT)
