Udupi: Heavy Rainfall -District Administration declares Holiday to Schools and Colleges

Udupi: The school going kids have all woken up late today, and they all have a happy face since they don't have to go to school. The continuous and heavy rainfall in the Udupi district and the damage caused due to rains, as led the district administration to declare holiday for schools and colleges on 11 August 2012.

Taking all the safety measures of the people the deputy commissioner Dr M T Reju declared holiday for school and colleges in Udupi district. Kundapur and Karkala have witnessed heavy rain fall  and as a precautionary measure Schools and Colleges are declared holiday on Saturday.

There were many incidents that occurred in Udupi recently due to rain. A woman had died, houses damaged, landslides, walls collapsed and properties ruined, all due to the incessant rain during the past few days.

Sea erosion is on the rise at places like Kodi, Uppunda, Paduvari, Someshwara, Tharapathi, Dombe in Shiroor. Kolloor and few houses have been damaged.  Traffic was also paralyzed.  It is a precautionary measure from the district administration, said Reju.
