Manipal: Right To Information Workshop Brings Knowledge To The Students

Manipal: The Manipal Journal and Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC), in association with ' White Whistle ', Mangalore, conducted a certificate workshop on the Right To Information ( RTI) Act (2005) at the MIC auditorium here on Saturday. The workshop was conducted by RTI activist Harsha Raj Gatty, convener of ' White whistle ' and also the Research Fellow in the Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India. His talk covered all aspects of the RTI Act, from its history to its implementation. The workshop was attended by Dr M V Kamath, Honorary Director of MIC ,and Varadesh Hiregange, Director of MIC.
The editor-in-chief of The Manipal Journal, Sabari Saran said, “As journalists or even as common man, it is important to understand and exercise your rights as a citizen of this country. The idea was to give the students of Manipal a platform for the same.”
“Being a student of journalism, a workshop like this was much needed. I understood the practicalities of filing an RTI. It also explains the after effects of it. It is one thing to learn about it, but on another side to understand how to deal with what follows”, said Babasish Nanda, a student of MIC who attended the session.The workshop was attended by both students and others. Certificates were given to the participants. |
