Stone Quarry Owners Assault Journalists on Duty

Udupi: Two journalists were allegedly assaulted by the stone quarry owners at Belooru Mogebeettu under Kota Police Station limits here, on August 24.

The injured have been identified as Rajesh Kundapur a local tv (Spandana TV) reporter and Ganesh Saibarkatte, a daily newspaper reporter.

On August 24, Rajesh and Ganesh had gone for reporting on the illegal stone quarry work being carried out from many years in Belooru Mogebettu near Kota. When they were recording the quarry spot, the quarry owners and some locals assaulted the reporters and damaged their Video camera and Mobile phones. The quarry owners also threatened the Journalists with life.

The reporters later filed a complaint against Rathnakar Shetty, Madhukar Shetty and Sudhakar Shetty in the Kota Police Station.

The Brahmavar zone and Kundapur Taluk working journalists association condemned the incident and urged the police to act against the quarry owners who had assaulted the journalists.
