Strong winds, Lightning and Rain Damage Several Houses

Udupi: Strong winds accompanied by heavy rain and lightning damaged several houses in the district during the early hours of Sunday, May 15.

The rain that lasted over an hour damaged the roofs of houses in Havanje, Giliyaru, Uppoor, Hangarakate, Sasthan and other places.

Several houses have been damaged leading to the loss of property of many. A house belonging to Godu Poojary of Havanje was damaged, as its roof collapsed. Power supply got disrupted in areas of Kota to Brahmavar.

Several trees, electric poles were uprooted and fell on houses, causing damage electric wires were also damaged. There was no untoward incident reported as the electricity officers switched off the power supply immediately.

Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj and Revenue officials visited the affected places and inspected the damage. The MLA instructed the Tahsildar to launch relief operations and release relief assistance depending on the damage.
