It was found at a steep turn of the flow about 100 metres downstream.

Venkatesh, who had arrived with a group from Nelamangala, had got down for a dip in the river before obtaining the deity’s darshan.

Not aware of the depth of water and force of river current during rains, he had been washed away.

The search operation launched by the Puttur fire brigade was affected by incessant rains and flood in the river on Sunday and Tuesday.

The operation was resumed on Tuesday, with additional support from home guards from Sullia and Subrahmanya.

After the body was taken out, a case was registered at the Subrahmanya police station.

After a post-mortem examination, the mortal remains were handed over to the family members.
