Sullia: Body of Veterinarian who Drowned in River Payaswini Traced and Fished out

Sullia: Efforts by the fire service, the home guards and locals to trace veterinarian Dr Prabhakar Nayak from the Payaswini river bed continued at Anjikar near Aletty on Wednesday morning.

The vet, hailing from Puttur taluk, had drowned while on a visit to a relative in Paladka near here, on the way back from Mysuru with family and two relatives. While others sat on the bank, he had walked into the deep river and had been dragged by river currents.

Efforts by the rescue team had progressed until late evening. In view of heavy rain and darkness, the operation was given up on Tuesday.

The body was found stuck to a rock at the river bed. Diving expert from the home guards, Prabhakar Pai, took the lead in retrieving it. After an autopsy, the mortal remains were handed over to the family.
