Berlin, Nov 18 (IANS) Seven suspects arrested on Tuesday in the German border town of Aachen close to Belgium and the Netherlands for their possible connection with the Paris attacks on November 13 were released later on Tuesday, German media Focus Online reported.
“We have no knowledge that the people are associated with the attacks,” a police spokesman said to German media on Tuesday evening, Xinhua reported.
German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere also announced in a statement that it did not appear there was a “close connection” with the attacks in Paris at the moment.
He stressed that there was further concern that one of the culprits fled to the neighbouring country of France. As a result, it was correct to continue strengthening border controls, he said.
As German media reported earlier, two women and a man were arrested in the morning at a job centre in the city, and four other suspects were arrested in the afternoon.
“We have received indications that one of the fugitives in the context of Paris may be staying in our area,” a report said, citing a police spokesman.
At least 129 people were killed and more than 300 others injured in the Paris attacks last Friday.
