Miami, July 17 (IANS) Australian tennis player Bernard Tomic on Friday apologised after he was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest by the Miami Beach police.
Tomic allegedly refused to leave his hotel room after an altercation with police and staff on Wednesday.
“I’m sorry for the disturbance I caused,” the 22-year-old was quoted as saying by bbc.co.uk.
Witnesses say Tomic was asked to turn down his music following complaints from other residents. But according to the arrest affidavit, Tomic reportedly “pointed his finger aggressively towards hotel security” after several reports of a loud party in his rooms.
Tomic reportedly also verbally and physically disobeyed police, when they arrived to evict the world No.25 from the hotel.
“It was definitely my fault. I was asleep on several occasions when they complained at first, but you know, it was just a noise complaint.
“I’m just happy I got out and no one got hurt,” Tomic said.
Tomic, whose address is listed as Key Biscayne, Florida on the affidavit, was in Miami after being dropped from Australia’s Davis Cup quarter-finals squad to face Kazakhstan this weekend following an ongoing dispute with Tennis Australia.
He accused his country’s tennis governing body of abandoning him after he had hip surgery last year.
