Traffic Jams at Nantur and Pumpwell in City Spoil Shivaratri Holiday Mood

Mangaluru: Those who were on tours and excursions to take advantage on the weekend combined with the Maha Shivaratri holiday on Monday had their enjoyment curtailed when passing through major bottlenecks on the national highways at Pumpwell and Nantur.

Pumpwell is the gateway to the city from the southern and eastern side while Nantur is from northern side. Adding to the woes was the one-way introduced between Padil circle and the city.

Various temples in the city had special Shivaratri rituals, which attracted thousands of devotees. Those returning to the city after the extended weekend and vice versa were struck at these two points for long hours.

The understaffed traffic police, assisted by amateur home guards, were hard pressed to control the situation at different points like Kulur, besides the busy circles like Basaveshwara near KPT, Dr Ambedkar near Jyoti, Karavali in Kankanady, Lady Hill in Urwa and others.
