Tribal woman gang-raped in Bengal, four arrested

Kolkata, June 21 (IANS) A tribal woman was allegedly gang-raped after being abducted from a marriage party in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, police said on Sunday. Four people have been arrested in this connection.

The incident happened Friday night in Tantipara of the district, some 180 km from Kolkata.

Following a complaint by the victim, police on Saturday night arrested four people.

According to the complaint, about six to eight people abducted the woman who had come to attend a marriage in the village and took turns to rape her.

“We have arrested four people in this connection. The accused today (Sunday) were presented before a court which sent them to nine days’ police custody,” said Additional Superintendent of Police Ananda Roy.
