Trinamool turns 18

Kolkata, Jan 1 (IANS) West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress on Friday celebrated the 18th anniversary of its foundation day across the state.

The day saw party flags being hoisted at the Trinamool headquarters in the city as well as all party offices across the state.

Blood donation camps, distribution of warm clothes to the poor and other activities were carried out across all the blocks of the state by Trinamool leaders and activists.

Party chairperson and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter to celebrate the day.

“On January 1, 1998, the people of Bengal started Trinamool, meaning grassroots. Today, we are 18, always with the people, for the people and by the people,” she twitted.

On this day, Banerjee also completed a year on the micro blogging site.

“From mass people’s movements to the struggle for establishing democracy in Bengal, Trinamool has always served the masses. After coming to power in 2011, the party has extensively worked for the all-round development of the state,” the party said.
