Urwa Police Arrest Two in Chain Snatching Case

Mangaluru: The Urwa police have arrested two persons in connection with chain snatching cases, from KSRTC Bus stand here on June 19.

The arrested have been identified as Rohit Kumar (26), a resident of Battery Garden Bolar and Prajwal Shetty.

According to the police, on June 9, when a woman was walking on Kodikkal cross road, Rohit who was around, snatched the gold chain from her neck and fled from the spot. In this connection, a case was registered in the Urwa police station and a special team was also formed to nab the culprit.

On June 19, Urwa police went to the KSRTC bus stand and nabbed two persons who were boarding the bus to sell the stolen items in Bengaluru. During interrogation, Rohit revealed that he would look for single women on the streets and snatch their gold ornaments. Prajwal Shetty used to buy the stolen items from Rohit and sell them in Bengaluru.

From the past three months, four chain snatching cases were reported in the Barke, Urwa and Mangalore South police stations. The Urwa police have arrested Rohit and Prajwal and recovered 56 grams of gold ornaments (four gold chains and one gold pendant) and two mobile phones all worth Rs 1.7 Lakh from their possession.

The operation was carried out under the able guidance of Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar, DCP Law and Order K M Shantharaju, DCP Crime and Traffic Dr Sanjeev Patil, Urwa police inspector Ravish Nayak and team.
