Two involved in roadside robberies arrested in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 26 (IANS) Two robbers involved in many cases of snatching and roadside robberies in Delhi have been arrested, police said on Wednesday.

Deepak alias Deepu (22) and Babar Khan (20) were arrested by Delhi Police from Kakrola area of west Delhi. Both are residents of Dwarka.

Police said nine cases of robbery, snatching and theft have been solved after their arrest.

Police recently received information about a gang of robbers active in west Delhi. It was believed that this gang was behind many recent roadside robberies.

“On Tuesday evening, we received a tip that two notorious robbers — Deepak and Khan — would come to Kakrola on a stolen white scooty,” a police official said.

A trap was laid and the two were apprehended. The white scooty, having a fake number plate, and four stolen mobile phones were seized, the official said.

“They used stolen motorcycles or fake number plates to avoid detection,” he added.

“Deepak had many girlfriends and regularly visited discotheques in Gurgaon. He also arranged customers for the same on commission,” the official said.

“To meet his expenses, he set up his own gang and committed robbery, snatching and theft. He also lured Khan to join him.”
