Two Maoist guerrillas surrender in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Dec 29 (IANS) Two Maoist guerrillas, carrying rewards of Rs.5 lakh and Rs.2 lakh on their capture, surrendered before Jharkhand Police chief D.K. Pandey on Tuesday, officials said.

The two guerrillas were Kuldeep Mahto, the self-styled sub-zonal commander, and self-styled area commander Gajendra Ganjhu.

Kuldeep was carrying a reward of Rs.5 lakh and Gajendra Rs.2 lakh.

There were 32 cases lodged against Gajendra and seven cases against Kuldeep — including those of killing of policemen and detonating landmines.

The surrendered insurgents will provided compensation and rehabilitated under the state government’s rehabilitation policy.

Maoist guerrillas are active in 18 of the 22 districts of Jharkhand.
