Two robbers held in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 28 (IANS) Two robbers involved in many cases of snatching and robberies in Delhi have been arrested, police said here on Friday.

The teenagers — Imran (18) and Juber Ali (18) — were arrested by police from west Delhi’s Shahdara area. Both are residents of Badarpur area.

Police had recently received information that a gang of young robbers is active in the capital. It is believed that this gang is behind many recent roadside robberies.

“On Thursday afternoon, we received a complaint from a woman that two men on a motorcycle have robbed her while on the way to Karkarduma metro station. Within seven to eight minutes, similar complaint was received by the Anand Vihar Police station where a woman was robbed of her hand bag near Cross River Mall,” a police official said.

On the basis of the given information, both criminals were nabbed behind Cross River Mall (in west Delhi) on Friday.

Police recovered the stolen articles from them, the official said, adding, “Both complainants also identified the nabbed criminals and the robbed articles.”

“During interrogation they (the duo) confessed to have committed more than 10 cases of robbery in east and adjoining districts of Delhi and used to target women carrying handbags in lonely places,” he said.

A First Information Report for robbery, dishonestly receiving stolen property, attempt to murder, acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention were lodged against them, the officer added.
