In a press release ABVP stated that there were attempts to paint the issues at University of Hyderabad as a tussle between Dalit and Non-Dalit students. The problems were between those who supported Yakub Memon, who was hanged for his involvement in Mumbai blasts, and those who opposed him. They criticised Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi for ‘politicising’ the suicide of Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula. Rahul Gandhi should desist from playing vote bank politics over the unfortunate death of the student leader.

ABVP considers students as students and does not divide them on caste or religious lines. The suicide of Rohith Vemula is a sad and serious incident. It should not be construed as a battle between Dalits and Non-Dalits. ABVP demanded an apolitical investigation into the suicide.

ABVP leaders Srihari, Subhodh, Sushanth, Rahul and others were present.
