Balakrishna Shetty addressing the protesters said that Naik has ordered not to pay DA to beedi workers based on consumer price index and has put them great trouble. Naik has been working in favour of the beedi companies. CITU has filed a writ petition in the High court seeking its intervention. The order by Naik will benefit the beedi companies and not the beedi workers and the benefit is estimated to be around Rs 200 crore.

The labour minister has decided to appoint a retired official as the advisor to the labour commissioner which will increase corruption in the department. The order has also created hurdles to the proposal of fixing minimum wage at Rs 10,010 PM. The non-payment of dues in ESI referral hospitals has created hurdles for the labourers.

The Chief Minister should intervene in the irregularities reported in the labour department and should sack P T Parameshwar Naik, he added.
