Udupi: CMC Officials Witness Public Ire on Street Vendor’s Eviction

Udupi: The officials of Udupi CMC witnessed public outrage on the eviction of street vendors operating in front of the KSRTC bus stand here, on September 9.

CMC officials led by CMC Commissioner Manjunathayya had arrived to evict a street vendor Kankraj who was selling fruits at the same spot from the past 14 years.

The public gathered after seeing the CMC officials throwing away fruits and carts. They soon intervened and asked the CMC officials to move back. Fearing public reaction, the officials stepped back.

Licenses have been issued to Kankraj and other street vendors to operate their businesses in Ambalpady but due to the poor market facilities, they set up their business in front of the KSRTC bus stand. CMC officials say that the street vendors were obstructing traffic flow and need to vacate the area.
