Udupi: “The policies formulated by the Congress government in the state for people of backward classes are only on papers and not been implemented,” said BJP leader Govind Karajola. He was speaking after inaugurating a BJP convention, ‘Anthyodaya’ for ST, SC and Backward Classes at Kediyoor Auditorium here, on November 2.

The Congress government speaks a lot on uplifting people of backward classes ahead of elections while in reality, they are not even bothered about their welfare after they come to power. The law and order in the state has failed. Rape cases, murders and communal tensions are very high, he added.

Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar said that the state government allocated Rs 14,000 crore for the backward classes but only Rs 3,500 crore has been utilised. “CM Siddarmaiah is a self-proclaimed backward class’ leader and does not even bother to promote the welfare of the backward classes. The Congress government has created an atmosphere of intolerance in the coastal region. Hindu youth are assaulted and murdered but the government is silent on the issue,” he added.

Former minister and present MP Sriramulu said that the government should initiate steps to waive the loans of farmers. “Just by waiving the interest on loan is not enough. Educational institutions in the state have also been neglected by the government as it has not appointed teachers. The economic growth of the state has also been hindered”.

Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje; MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary; Former MLA Raghupati Bhat and Lalaji R Mendon, BJP leaders Uday Kumar Shetty, Shyamala Kunder, BJP District President Tingale Vikramarjun Hegde and others were present.
