Udupi: Couple Thieving at Wedding Venues Arrested – Loot Worth Rs 12 Lakh Seized

Udupi: R Pradeep (38) and his wife Revati (28), hailing from Jayanagar in Shivamogga, have been arrested by the Hiriyadka police.

They have been accused of executing thefts in marriage halls in different places in the district. The rising number of such incidents in recent times had alarmed the police.

The duo had made it a practice to dress presentably and attend marriage functions and move around the hall confidently so as not to create any suspicion.

Under instructions from SP Annamalai, teams consisting of personnel from Brahmavar circle and Hiriyadka station went on their trail and nabbed them.

Gold and silver ornaments, cash, a bike and ATM cards, of total value of Rs 12 lakh, also have been seized from them.

On Dec 13, the couple is said to have stolen Rs 45,000 in cash and ATM various other cards from the dressing room of the Devadiga auditorium in Hiriyadka. They later withdrew Rs 1,400 from a bank account, by making use of one of the cards.

On Dec 20, they took away a vanity bag containing gold ornaments worth Rs 48,000 and two mobile phones from the bridal make-up room of Govinda Kalyana Mantapa here..

As already reported, another theft of a wallet belonging to Suresh Kulal of Kodavoor from a marriage hall in Vontibettu had taken place on Dec 20. Now it has come to light that the same couple was behind it.
