Udupi: Discussions play a prominent role in the research of history, said Prof. Upinder Singh, Head of Department of History at Delhi University and daughter of former PM, Dr Manmohan Singh. She was speaking during an interaction programme held in the memory of Padur Gururaj Bhat at the MJM College, here on October 18.
She said that it is wrong to assume that people started to travel around the world with the advent of technology. “People began travelling around the world even before the advent of technology. Our literature, culture, language and thoughts have flourished along with people.”
In the recent years, research is being pursued on the role of women throughout history. Regional history also plays a prominent role in the nation’s history. Effective study in regional history will lead to the study of national history. Gururaj Bhat focused more on regional history. He even travelled to villages to collect information on historic events. His record of historic events of Tulunadu has good information, she added.
Dr Vijay Tanka, Dr A Shantram and others were present. Prof. Sripati Tantri welcomed the gathering. Herinje Krishna Bhat compered the programme.
