Udupi: The Block Congress president have been directed to submit report on persons carrying out anti-party activities, said Gopal Poojary, MLA of Byndoor Constituency and president of District Congress. He was addressing the mediapersons at a press meet held at the Press Club here on December 21.
The persons named in the report will be suspended with immediate effect. The report will be sent to KPCC President, Dr G Parameshwar for further action.
He also said that irregularities in the Varahi Irrigation project have been probed by Lokayukta and the report has been submitted. The issue will be raised in the coming assembly sessions. When asked why Pratap Chandra Shetty was silent for 35 years about the Varahi project and all of a sudden broke his silence and is rebelling against his own government, Gopal Poojary said that the project was facing problems due to delay in getting clearance from the Environment department.
“Water is supplied to the canals for the Varahi Irrigation project but the canals for the distribution of water are yet to be completed. The tender process will be initiated soon. Water is reaching the fields of 50% of the farmers. The rest will get water after the distribution (sub-canals) canals are constructed,” he added.
While asked if action will be initiated on the report submitted by Lokayukta on the irregularities in the project, he replied that he will put forth the issue in the upcoming assembly sessions.
While quizzed on why Pratap Chandra Shetty was not sacked for acting against the government by holding a protest, he said that Pratap protested on behalf of the farmers.
Taking a dig at former Chief Minister and MP of Shimoga-Byndoor LS constituency, B S Yeddyurappa, Gopal said that his reply to BSY would be to compare BSY’s Sansad Adarsh Grama project to Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes’ project. “The difference between them is my reply to BSY.”
“Shobha Karandlaje, MP Udupi-Chikkamagluru LS constituency should first do her job and then criticize others.”
Pratap Chandra Shetty will win a with good margin, he added. Narasimha Murthy, Bhaskar Rao Kediyoor, Sujay Poojary, Nagesh Udyavar and others were present.
