Udupi: Excise Department Seizes 103.5 litres of Goa liquor, two arrested

Udupi: Excise Department sleuths seized 103.5 liters of liquor, which was being transported from Goa to Kerala by train, near Indrali Railway Station here on Friday, July 24.

The arrested have been identified as Vishnu B N (23) and Jayan (37), residents of Kochi, Kerala.

The operation was carried out after Excise officials received reliable information that liquor was being transported in the Goa-Kochuveli express train. Under the direction of Joint Director Mangaluru region S L Rajendra Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of Excise Udupi district K S Murali and the team led by Excise official Vinod Kumar and Soumyalatha laid a trap near Indrali Railway Station and arrested Vishnu B N and Jayan. They seized 103.5 liters of Goa liquor worth Rs 50,000. Officers also seized 2 mobile phones from their possession .

District Excise officers Chandrashekar Naik, Balakrishna Jogi, Krishna, Divakar, Shanthappa Elagi, Ranjan, Ganesh, Venkatarmana Golla and B K Chennappa also participated in the operation.
