Udupi: Fisherman Falls and Drowns at Mid-sea, Feared Dead

Udupi: Gopal Suvarna (60), a resident of Vadabhandeshwar near Malpe, drowned in the Arabian Sea while having gone on a fishing mission with others last week.

A crew of 22 had left the Malpe harbour in a boat named Krishna Kumar around 6 pm on Feb 11. Around midnight, while they were engaged in fishing, Suvarna stood in a corner to answer the call of nature. He is said to have accidentally slipped and fell into water.

As he was drowning, others threw life-jackets and ropes at him so that he could come on board. But he went missing.

Search was made for him, but he could not be found. Hence he is feared to have died.
