Udupi: Fishing Boat Hits Rock near St Mary’s – All Seven on Board Swim to Safety

Udupi: A deep-sea fishing boat named Vighneshwara, owned by Sanjay Karkera, had sailed off on a fishing trip on Wedndesday night.

While at sea near St Mary’s isles, its bottom is said to have hit a rock around 1 am in the early hours of Thursday. The rear side of the boat got totally smashed.

With no other boat in sight to help them, they used their presence of mind and began speeding towards the nearest shore at Badanidiyoor and Thottam.

When it could no longer stay afloat, they all jumped into the sea and swam ashore to safety.

The loss is estimated to be Rs 30 lakh.
