Udupi: Gesture of Harmony – Muslims to Hold Blood Donation Camp to Mark Paryaya

Udupi: The undivided Dakshina Kannada district has for centuries been known as a cradle of communal harmony and brotherhood, although there have been aberrations during the past two decades.

Muslims being present at Hindu rituals at certain centres by tradition, Hindus being asked to be at Muslim events, Christians honouring three Bunt guttu families in Damaskatte at the annual feast – these are just a few examples of the harmony fabric of the district.

In the latest gesture of harmony, the Udupi Zilla Samasta Muslim Paryaya Sauharda Samiti has grand plans on hand to commemorate the occasion of Paryaya here.

Samiti president Haji K Abubaqer announced this plan at a media meet here on Monday. The Samiti will distribute free cold drinks at the time of the entry of Shri Pejavar Swamji into the city – what is known as pura pravesha – on January 4, 2016,

A ‘hore kaanike’ (headload presentation) will also be held by the Samiti on Jan 10.

A blood donation camp will be organized jointly by the Pejavar Blood Donating Team and the Samiti between 8 am and 3 pm on Jan 17. The camp will be launched by Shri Pejavar Swamiji.

A free package of Rs 30,000 worth of health insurance, which will be valid for six months, will be given to each of the blood donors. On the same occasion, Dr Capt Ramachandra of the Kasturba medical institutions will be felicitated.
