Udupi: Heroor Residents to Hold Protest against Fish Processing Unit

Udupi: The residents of 52 Heroor Gram will be submitting a memorandum to the deputy commissioner against the approval given for the fish processing unit to be set up in Heroor.

Sunil Sooda, President of Nagarika Samiti in a pressmeet held at the Udupi Press Club said that the Development Officer of Chantaru Panchayat has granted NOC to the conversion of land for setting up fish processing unit without the consent of the panchayat president and members.

K Balaraj has sought NOC from Chantaru Panchayat for the conversion of land for residential purpose which was granted to him. The Panchayat PDO without the consent of GP members and president has granted NOC for conversion of land for non-residential purposes.

The panchayat body refused to give the NOC for conversion and declared the conversion for non-residential purpose as void. K Balaraj has then applied to the Executive Officer’s court for granting NOC.

The land proposed for setting up fish processing unit is densely populated. Rivers and paddy fields near the land are being cultivated. With the setting up of fish processing unit the farming land will be destroyed. The norms set by KIADB which are must for setting up industrial unit are also violated.

A memorandum will be submitted to the deputy commissioner of Udupi District seeking his intervention. A vehicle rally will be organized on Monday, August 10, from Heroor – Rajathadri – Manipal to submit a memorandum to the deputy commissioner, he added.

Dinker Heroor, Narayan, Santosh, Uday Kamath were present.
