Udupi: Kanakadasa’s songs have a blend of both literature and devotion, said Shree Vidyavallabha Teertha Swamiji of Paryaya Kaniyoor Math. He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of Kanaka Sadhbhavana Jyothi Rathayathra held at Rajangana here, on November 28 on the eve of the 528th Kanaka Jayanthi.
“Kanankadasa inspired many lives as he created social awareness with his songs. A memorandum has been submitted by the Kanaka Sadhbhavana Jyothi Rathayathra Samithi to build a temple in remembrance of Kanaka which will be soon initiated,” he added.
Shree Yogeshwaranand Swamiji, president of Ramakrishna Yogashrama said that the teachings of Kanakadasa are an inspiration to many. “If Kanakadasa would have been born as a Brahmin, he would have been known to everyone; his teachings have inspired many,” he added.
Pramod Madhwaraj, Parliamentary Secretary of Revenue Department and MLA of Udupi constituency, said that his father Malpe Madhwaraj, in 1968 had erected the idol of Kanadasa in the presence of Shree Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji who was then the Paryaya Swamiji. “Every effort will be made to construct Kanakana Gudi and CM Siddaramaih will inaugurate the Gudi,” he added.
Kanaka Sadhbhavana Jyothi Rathayathra arrived to Shree Krishna Math starting from Joodukatte. Shree Vidyavallabha Teertha Swamiji along with Shree Yogeshwaranand Swamiji offered flowers and puja to Kanakadasa’s idol.
Om Shree Krishnamurthy, state president of Kanaka Sadhbhavana Jyothi Rathayathra Samithi, CMC president Yuvraj, D Venkateash Murthy, Prabhavati, Chokkanahalli Mahesh, Amrutesh N P and others were present.
