Udupi: Karnataka Soaps and Detergent Ltd to hold ‘Soap Santhe’ from 16 to 25 October

Udupi: “Karnataka Soaps and Detergent Limited has planned to have a vibrant Soap Santhe in the city to bring all ranges of KSDL products to the doorsteps of the consumers, where the products will be exhibited and sold at discounted rates. The Soap Santhe will be held at the Government Junior College (Board High School) from October 16 to 25,” said Veronica Cornelio, Chairperson of KSDL.

She was addressing the mediapersons at a press meet held at the Press Club. Vinay Kumar Sorake, the district minister in-charge, will inaugurate the Soap Santhe, while MLA of Udupi, Pramod Madhwaraj will be presiding over the function. Oscar Fernandes (Rajya Sabha Member), Shobha Karandlaje (MP Udupi-Chikkamagaluru), Savitha S Kotian (ZP president), Sunitha Naik (TP president), Yuvraj (CMC president), Dr R Vishal (DC of Udupi), Jonathan Thonse (UUDA president), Annamalai (SP Udupi), Jayaprakash Hegde (former MP) will also take part in the inaugural function.

Briefing about KSDL, Veronica Cornelio said that the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited, a Government of Karnataka undertaking, is known all over the world for its famous Mysore Sandal Soap, which is accredited with Geographical Indication Registry and is the Intellectual Property of India. The Company has received various awards for its progressive growth. It has also received the coveted Chief Minister Ratna Award in the year 2010. The Company manufactures around 38 different products ranging from Soaps, Detergents, Cosmetics, Agarbathies and the world famous Sandalwood Oil.

KSDL is certified with ISO 9001:2008 for Quality Assurance and with ISO 14001:2004 for Environment Policy. It is continuously registering a steady growth year over year, and giving stiff competition to multinational companies. During the year 2014-15, KSDL achieved a turnover of Rs 406.00 crore and registered a net profit of Rs 45.19 crore. It has also set an ambitious target of Rs 403.00 crore for the financial year 2015-16 and has already made steady progress in achieving the set target.

The flagship brand of the company, Mysore Sandal Soap, is growing in volumes at the rate of 14% per annum. Its other famous brand Mysore Sandal Gold Soap is also growing at the rate of 22% per annum.

Mysore Sandal Soap will be completing 100 years in May 2016 and there have been several plans to celebrate the Centenary programme from May 2016 onwards. Very few consumer product companies across the globe have achieved 100 years of consumer trust. On this occasion, KSDL has ambitions to celebrate the function in a grand manner.

The product Mysore Sandal Millennium Luxury Soap which was launched during 2013, has become the most sought after premium soap in the country though it is priced at Rs 720/- per cake of 150 gms with exclusive packing, thereby categorizing as the costliest soap in the county. The product is well accepted by the consumers due to its high quality.

Products like Mysore Sandal Soap, Mysore Sandal Gift Pack, Mysore Sandal Gold Soap, Mysore Sandal Gold Sixer, Mysore Sandal Dhoop, Mysore Sandal Agarbathies, Mysore Sandals Herbal Hand Wash, Kleenol, Mysore Sandal Baby Soap, Sandalwood billets, Sandalwood oil, Mysore Carbolic Soap, Mysore Washing Half Bar and Mysore Detergent Cake are the notable brands which are very popular in the market and well accepted by consumers.

The company has taken up an initiative programme to “Grow More Sandal Trees” which will enhance the forest coverage and also ensure regular availability of Sandal Wood and good earnings for the farmers. The company is selling sandalwood saplings at very subsidised price.

Suvarna Kumar, assistant general manager of marketing, said that the company has also planned to launch many more products in the coming season like Centennial Soap, Mysore Sandal Face Pack, Shampoo and other variants of Agarbathies. “All this could be possible under the dynamic leadership of our Chairperson Veroncia Cornelio,” he added.
