Udupi: The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy Mangaluru, Tulu Koota Udupi, Oriental Archives Reserach Center Udupi, Tulu Association MGM College Udupi and NSS Unit, and Tulu Sangha of Govt PU College will be jointly organising “Tuluminadana” (Tulu Cultural Fest) at the MGM College campus here, on September 13, said Jayakar Shetty Indrali, president of Tulu Koota Udupi.
He was addressing the mediapersons at a press meet held at the Press Club here on September 9. District minister in-charge, Vinay Kumar Sorake will inaugurate the cultural fest. Besides, many political leaders, MLAs and well-wishers will also be attending the fest.
To encourage the traditional tribal game “Channemane”, a competiton will be conducted for the public on the occasion. Histrorically, Channemane is around 2500 years old. In this regard, a seminar will be conducted, considering it to be a tribal community game which later become a Tulu Cultural Game. The seminar will draw attention to add the traditional Channemane game in the list of the UNESCO, since the game is now being rarely played by only a few and can be treated as a forgotten game losing its place.
As part of the Tulu festival, students will take part in Tulu ethnic rhymes, proverbs and riddles. The festival has been arranged to make people understand Tulu life, heritage, language, and to motivate people to understand the great heritage of Tuluva’s. This kind of a programme will attract younger generations to feel the cultural fragrance and to understand it.
Besides, unforgettable personalities and their significant contributions will be remembered as part of the commemoration and all participants will be given plants and made to take an oath to inspire others to grow more plants and trees in the name of “Tulu Pachevana” (Tuluvas Green Garden).
