Udupi: KKSV stages Protest against M M Kalburgi’s murder, demands speedy action

Udupi: The Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike district Unit and other like mind associations staged a protest at the Clock Tower here on September 1, against the killing of Kannada writer and rationalist Dr M M Kalburgi.

Addressing the gathering Professor Paniraj said that this is the third such killing by the forces of reaction and obscurantism, the first two being that of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar in Pune and veteran communist leader Govind Pansare in Kolhapur.

He alleged that the law and order situation in the State has completely deteriorated owing to the negligence of the State government, and that there was no security for progressive thinkers and litterateurs in the State.

Prof M M Kalburgi was known for his strong views against superstition, obscurantism and on scientific temper. The incident has created a situation where progressive thinkers will hesitate to express their views on various issues. The Karnataka government and the police should take speedy and effective action to apprehend the culprits and those behind this heinous crime, he said.

Prof T Murugeshi, H Vittal, G Rajeshekar, Joythi Guruprasad, Jayan Malpe, Hussain Kodibengre, Prof Cyril Mathais, Udyavar Nagesh Kumar, Idrees Hode, Manjunath Giliyar, Shyamraj Birthi, Ganesh Nergi and others were present.
