Udupi: KSA to Hold ‘Konkani Manyata Divas’ on Aug 20

Udupi: The annual ‘Konkani Manyata Divas’ that celebrates the diversity and richness of the language with a day-long series of literary and cultural programmes will be held on August 20 at Sharada Kalyana Mantapa Kunjibettu, said Amrith Shetty, working president of Konkani Manyatha Divas celebration committee.

Addressing a press meet at the Press Club on August 12, he said that the programme will encapsulate Konkani culture and tradition by showcasing songs, dances, poetry and various cultural richness of Konkani language.

The celebrations will begin with a cultural procession from Kalasanka Junction to the programme Auditorium at 3.00 pm. Yuvaraj, president of Udupi City Municipal Council and Annamalai IPS, Superintendent of Police Udupi district will inaugurate the procession.

After the procession, various cultural organisations will perform the cultural events from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm, said Amrith Shenoy.

The stage programme of Konkani Manyata Divas will be held at 5.00 pm. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi diocese, Vinay Kumar Sorake district minister in-charge, Oscar Fernandes MP Rajyasabha will be the chief guests for the event. Roy Castelino, President of Karnataka Konani Academy, will deliver the introductory remarks. Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA Udupi, will preside over the function. MLA Gopal Poojary, Sunil Kumar, Prathapchandra Shetty, Kota Srinivas Poojary, MP Shobha Karandlaje, Veronica Cornelio (chairperson of KSDL), Nakwa Yahya Chairman Wakf board, Shashiraj Kundar and Mahesh Takoor will also be present.

The academy will also felicitate various organisations and individuals for their contribution to the growth of the language, he added.

Janardhan Bhandarkar (convener of the celebration committee), Shaila Fernades (vice president), Kamalaksha Shet, Devadas Pai and others were also present.
